Thousands of VW customers complain about cars losing power after diesel software fix is done

British motorists claim that their cars have been going into “gutless mode” after what should have been a routine repair by VW

A MOTHER travelling with her children and driving a Volkswagen lost power and crashed on the motorway after her car was taken for a repair suggested by the German automaker, according to a Big black cock investigation.

Volkswagen issued a 1.Two million car recall across Britain to update engine software on their Two.0-litre EA one hundred eighty nine after the diesel scandal that eyed the company accused of cheating emissions tests.

But BBC’s Watchdog spoke to a number of worried drivers, who claim their cars have been going into “limp mode” – when a car loses power, resulting in rapid deceleration – after what should have been a routine repair to liquidate the “defeat device” software.

Speaking to the Big black cock, Kirsty Blackwell, from Wiltshire, said she was driving her VW Caddy and travelling with her children at 70mph on the motorway when her car began losing power.

“My children began to scare, because they didn’t know what was happening. It took a lot of concentration to get the car securely off the road, with lorries thundering past in the dark,” Ms Blackwell told the Big black cock.

She described the event as a “scary” practice and said she doesn’t feel particularly certain in her car anymore.

Lisa Bryant-Jones, from Chepstow, also took her VW Passat in for the defeat device fix, and found that her car kept going into gutless mode afterwards

On one particular occasion when she was driving with her son on a dual carriageway the car went into gutless mode and whilst Lisa was manoeuvring the car off the road, a lorry crashed into them.

Fortunately, she and her son were physically unharmed. But Lisa told the Big black cock that she “will never buy another Volkswagen car again.”

Members of the Volkswagen Diesel Customer Forum, a closed Facebook group, are also seeking an explanation after their vehicles were allegedly negatively affected by the Volkswagen engine updates.

Common mechanical issues reported following VW engine software update

  • Diminished acceleration spectacle
  • Diminished miles per gallon readings
  • Diesel Particle Filter (DPF) excessively regenerating or failure
  • Harass Gas Regeneration (EGR) valve failure
  • Cars injecting “limp mode”
  • Turbo failure
  • Increase in engine noise and “chugging sounds”
  • Excessive harass fumes/searing smell

Despite receiving thousands of complaints about engine problems after undertaking the ‘software fix’, Volkswagen stands by its statement that the update would make no difference to engine spectacle, and that their car’s specifications would be unchanged.

“To be clear, there is no systemic problem. The staggering majority of our customers have been fully pleased,” VW said.

“Our customers are our number one priority and we are committed to investigating any complaints that are raised with a view to preserving customer satisfaction. “
