HAMILTON TWP. — A Scranton man was arrested on Interstate eighty near Stroudsburg on Wednesday afternoon after he stole a car, fled toward Fresh Jersey and ran into two state police cars, police said.

Nicholas D. Bell, 29, stole a car from Old Forge and was heading east at Two:50 p.m. when Old Forge police asked state troopers to look for him in an eastbound car, police said.

The very first trooper to spot Bell attempted to pull him over, but Bell accelerated and slipped past I-80 traffic on the road shoulder until police blocked him about four miles west of Stroudsburg, state police Cpl. Gerald P. Lydon said.

Bell hit two police cars in the pursue and was stopped on I-80 near Rimrock Drive, Hamilton Twp., police said.

State police charged Bell with aggravated brunt of a law enforcement officer, reckless endangerment, fleeing police and several traffic offenses.

Old Forge police later will treat charges involving the alleged car theft, police said.
