Press Release – Fresh SOC GB Logo

After many years of admirable service the traditional Saab Owners Club roundel is to be superseded with an all fresh logo. However, do not worry, the SOC roundel that many of us all know and love and instantly recognise as the Saab OwnersClub identity will not vanish, it will simply become the clubs ‘classic’ or ‘retro’ logo. The fresh logo is a more modern photo that we hope will appeal to everyone, both classic and modern Saab owners.

News from Jim Valentine (June 2016)

Who was Erik Carlsson?

Many fresh members to the Club ask the same question – “Who is Erik Carlsson?” I suppose a lot of people who were not around in the 60s have never heard of him even tho’ this giant of a man is often referred to as “Mr SAAB”.

Erik was born in one thousand nine hundred twenty nine in Trollhattan, Sweden, not far from the SAAB factory, but at that time the factory was only producing aircraft. Erik was twenty when production of the very first SAAB cars commenced. His very first passion was motorbikes, he bought a Norton five hundred fresh when he was eighteen from Nystrom’s where he was working. Pelle Nystrom was the Norton importer for Sweden. At weekends he took part in hillclimbs, motorcross, road racing and, during the winter, ice track racing.

Where possible, there is usually an SOC ‘presence’ at gatherings across the region organised by other clubs, motor museums or advertised on web forums (principally UKSaabs).
