M6 crash police name five Romanian victims killed as they prayer for Staffordshire motorway accident witnesses to come forward

COPS investigating a devastating crash on the M6 which left five people dead have exposed all the victims were Romanian.

They were driver Marius Zevian, 45, and Cucoana Zevian, 49, ­Gheorghita Radu, 56, Nicoleta-Marinela Florea, 42, and Marcela Sandu, 34. They were all Romanians living in Stoke.

A fifth passenger, 37, is in hospital.

A 60-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving following the horrific smash on the motorway inbetween a blue Nissan Micra and a lorry but was later bailed.

Staffordshire Police has now said it is working with the families of the deceased and the four females and one masculine who were pronounced dead at the scene were all Romanian nationals.

The force also confirmed it has contacted the Romanian Embassy.

A front seat passengers was taken to Royal Stoke University where he remains in a stable condition.

Witnesses who may have seen the crash and have not yet come forward are being urged to do so by police.

Traffic ground to a halt following the smash which happened at around Four.30am on the southbound spread of the motorway inbetween junctions fifteen for Stoke-on-Trent and fourteen for Stafford.

Police reopened the southbound carriageway of the motorway around 1pm, and all lanes were reopened by 8pm.

Shocking pictures from the scene showcase the mangled car with its roof ripped off and glass scattered across the road.

A spokesman from West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “When emergency services arrived they discovered a car with six occupants inwards which had been involved in a significant collision with a HGV.

“Sadly, it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save the driver and four passengers.

“All five were confirmed dead on the scene.

“The sixth occupant, a man in his 40s, suffered numerous serious injuries and received advanced trauma care by the team of medics at the scene.

“Once stabilised, the man was taken by land ambulance on blue lights to Royal Stoke University Hospital for further care.

“The driver of the lorry, a man, was uninjured.”
