Three killed in South Side shootings, eight others wounded, including downtown

A man was fatally shot July Ten, 2017, in Gresham and another man was shot in the tummy just south of the Chicago Sea near Michigan Avenue. Eleven people were shot from Monday to Tuesday morning.

Three people were killed and eight were wounded, including in an attack downtown, in city shootings from Monday to Tuesday morning, Chicago police said.

In the most latest homicide, a 50-year-old man was shot just after Three:15 a.m. Tuesday when he was standing in the parking lot of a gas station in the Marynook neighborhood, and an offender shoved him into a Tempo paratransit vehicle in a bid to steal his cellphone, police said.

The victim was talking to the female driver in the lot of a CITGO gas station in the eight thousand three hundred block of South Stony Island. The man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition with gunshot wounds to the right arm, chest and back. He was later pronounced dead.

Late Monday afternoon, officers were called to a fatal shooting just south of where Interstate ninety cuts across the Grand Crossing neighborhood. A 30-year-old woman died after being shot in the seven thousand eight hundred block of South Kimbark Avenue about Four:40 p.m.

The woman suffered gunshot wounds to the face and head and was taken to Jackson Park Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said in a media notification, correcting earlier information that she might have been shot in the chest.

The woman was a passenger in a sedan when a man in the car fired shots, hitting her, police said. She then ran from the car and was shot several more times by someone, police said.

Earlier in the day, a man was fatally shot in the Gresham neighborhood, authorities said.

About 9:30 a.m. a report of the fatal shooting went out, and police descended on the eight thousand one hundred block of South Paulina Street. Officers blocked off intersections and held back traffic and crowds on foot at 82nd and Paulina.

Police there said the man was getting out of his vehicle when three gunmen got out of a white vehicle and opened fire, hitting the man. It wasn’t instantly known how many times the man was shot or where on his figure he was hit.

He was identified as Cedron Doles, 21, of the nine hundred block of North Hamlin Avenue. He was pronounced dead at 9:40 a.m. at the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

A neighbor, who did not want to be identified for fear of retaliation, said she witnessed numerous shooters. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Photos display police gathered around the man’s figure, which was covered with a cloth, as it lay in the street.

Other neighbors said they did not hear gunshots, despite a large number of shell casings found in the area.

Just before three p.m. near Lower Michigan Avenue downtown, a 33-year-old man was shot in the abdomen near Garland Court and Lower Wacker Place. The man got himself to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was in good condition before being released the same day, officials said.

Police later said the man was in a vehicle when a man fired shots at him from nearby. They also said the victim was not cooperating with investigators.

In other shootings:

  • Just before 11:30 p.m., a 38-year-old man was shot in the left hip and right hip while railing a bicycle in the Little Village neighborhood. He was railing in the two thousand seven hundred block of South Central Park Avenue when he heard shots and realized he was hit. The man got himself to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
  • About Ten:25 p.m. on the Far South Side, two people were shot while walking in the South Deering neighborhood when a man came up to them and fired shots in the ten thousand one hundred block of South Hoxie Avenue. A 16-year-old boy was hit in the left mitt and taken to Trinity Hospital, where his condition was stabilized. A 20-year-old man was hit in the right shoulder and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition was stabilized.
  • About 9:20 p.m. on the South Side, a 17-year-old boy was shot in the back while walking in the Lawndale neighborhood. Someone in a black sedan fired shots at the teenage in the four thousand one hundred block of West 16th Street. He got himself to Climb on Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
  • About nine p.m. in the West Side’s East Garfield Park neighborhood, a 20-year-old man was shot in the right foot. He was in the six hundred block of North Kedzie Avenue when he heard gunshots and realized he was hit. He got himself to Climb on Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
  • Just before six p.m. in the South Side’s Gresham neighborhood, a 26-year-old man was shot in the seven thousand five hundred block of South Hermitage Avenue, police said. The man suffered a gunshot wound to the lower back and his condition was stabilized at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. He told police he was in an alley when he heard shots and felt agony.
  • Also in the Gresham neighborhood, about Five:Ten p.m., a 27-year-old woman suffered a gunshot wound to the gam in the eight thousand six hundred block of South Morgan Street, police said. The woman suffered a gunshot wound to the gam and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where she was in good condition. The woman was in front of a home when someone came up on foot and fired a gun, hitting her and a parked vehicle.
