What’s interesting about the mid-2016 sales record is the growth in sales of the Commercial vehicle. According to the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturer of the Philippines (CAMPI), The Passenger vehicle category holds 39% of the Q1 sales while the rest goes to Commercial vehicle category, not to mention the Category five Strenuous Duty vehicles which almost grew almost 95% due to the on-going infrastructure happening in the country.

So which passenger vehicle sold most in Q1 of 2016? The Top ten best-selling cars for mid-2016 (January-May) are as go after:

No.Ten – Ford EcoSport – Four,077 units sold

The Ford EcoSport remains strong in the last spot with a very first quarter total sales of Four,077 units. Exterior wise, the Ford EcoSport still has the latest design cue fit for the modern era. On the inwards, the vehicle looks the same as the Ford Concentrate, which has one of the best interiors in its class.

No.9 – Toyota Innova – Four,258 units sold

The Toyota Innova submerges down from 3rd (mid-2015 ranking) place to 9th due to the model switch in April 2016. With that mentioned, the two thousand sixteen Toyota Innova is still a promising MPV and maybe the best on in its class. Being a 2nd generation vehicle on the Innova line, the all-new Toyota Innova now comes with an all fresh look along with a fresh platform. All in all, it’s entirely far better than its predecessor.

No.8 – Mitsubishi Mirage G4 – Four,950 units sold

The Sedan version of the Mitsubishi Mirage, the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 rises to the 8th spot thanks to its outstanding features and especially its budget friendly price embarking from P563,000 (GX – M/T).

No.7 – Toyota Hilux – Five,182 units sold

The Toyota Hilux hops from 8th (mid-2015 ranking) place to 7th in this year’s ranking. The Toyota Hilux clearly outnumbers its competition (Mitsubishi Strada, Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-max) in sales making it the no.1 pick truck in its class.

No.6 – Isuzu MU-X – Five,274 units sold

The Isuzu MU-X comes in the rank at the 6th place in the top ten best-selling cars in the Philippines mid-2016. Albeit the Isuzu MU-X is basically a rebadged Chevrolet Trailblazer, the car is still worth the buck rivaling toe-to-toe against another main stream SUVs like the Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Montero, and Ford Everest. Presently, the Isuzu MU-X might be the underdog on its class, but things are about to switch once the two thousand sixteen Isuzu MU-X comes in the Philippines market. Aside from a redesigned exterior and interior, the key feature of the fresh vehicle is its low gas consumption Blue Power tooled 1.9L Ddi engine (RZ4E-TC) which is 19% more efficient compared to the on-going model.

No.Five – Mitsubishi Montero Sport – Five,870 units sold

The Mitsubishi Montero Sport suffered a lot this past year over SUA (Unexpected Unintended Acceleration) accusation by various Montero Sport owners. The net went viral with a lot of movies showcasing the alleged SUA moments of the vehicle. But still, the all-new Montero Sport released this year was able to overcome this issues and remain at the 5th spot on the best-selling cars in the Philippines mid-2016.

No.Four – Toyota Wigo – 6,020 units sold

Since its release in January 2014. The Toyota Wigo has made a long way. It was even awarded the “Best Micro Car of the year” by the Card Awards Group for 2014-2015. The vehicle was a joint creation by Toyota and Daihatsu in Indonesia. Toyota Motor Philippines brought the vehicle in the Philippines for the foot purpose of rivaling with the Mitsubishi Mirage in the subcompact category.

No.Trio – Ford Everest – 6,037 units sold

Another fresh entry to the charts is the all-new Ford Everest. The all-new Ford Everest landed in many people’s garage all over the country. Ford’s latest SUV comes with a bold design and is unrecognizable from the last model. On the inwards, the all-new Ford Everest comes with a better interior design and fresh elements as well.

No.Two – Toyota HiAce – 8,044 units sold

The Toyota HiAce is well known for providing durability, reliability and value. It has been in the Philippines market for decades and has serviced a lot of families and businesses. The Toyota HiAce is the longest existing model on the top ten list and may as well be fare enough to announce that the Toyota HiAce is the overall best-selling car in the country.

No.1 – Toyota Vios – 13,900 units sold

The Toyota Vios remains on the stop spot with over 13,000 units sold from Jan-May 2016. Just like the Toyota HiAce, the Toyota Vios is also used in both individual and service business which can also be a reason for dramatically affecting its sales record. Most people would reconsider buying a car that is being used in the service sector, like a taxi for example. But the truth is. There are certain standards in relation to choosing which model to use such as budget, reliability and more. The Toyota Vios clearly passes all these standards which make it a very good vehicle to use, may it be for private or business.

The Mid-2016 auto sales record may be viewed as both good and bad news. Albeit the growth in sales reflects our country’s economic growth, more units sold also means more cars in the streets, and with our country’s road issues (bumper to bumper daily basis traffic), especially if you’re a daily driver in the city. We’re only left hoping for our freshly appointed President Rodrigo “Digong” Duterte will do something about it.
