1 dead, five injured after SUV crashes on I-64 in Newport News
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – One person was killed and five others hurt after a throated tired caused a SUV to crash and spin off Interstate sixty four in Newport News, Virginia State Police say.

Police say the accident happened around Five:Ten p.m. Sunday near the J. Clyde Morris Boulevard overpass.
A two thousand four Chevrolet SUV was going east on I-64, when a rear tire failure caused the vehicle to run off the road, hit a jersey wall and roll numerous times.
Six people were in the SUV at the time, according to state police.
Wilnet Gordon, seventy five of Richmond, and Brandon Carswell were ejected from their seats in the crash. Police say Gordon died at the scene.
Carswell was flown via Nighengale to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The driver, 38-year-old Kathy Y. Carswell, was taken to Riverside Memorial Hospital. Tiara Strange, 28, and two were also treated at Riverside.
The accident had all eastbound lanes and one westbound lane closed during cleanup.
Kathy Carswell has been charged with defective equipment, no liability insurance and failure to register a vehicle.
